Water is the most sought after and consumed precious liquid in the world. The well-being of the population depends on its quality and quantity. The objective of the study was to evaluate the evolution of the supply of drinking water and sanitation in the Uíge-Negage axis from 2003 to 2023. For data collection, a semi-structured, random questionnaire survey was used, aided by direct observation in the field in six villages in the province of Uíge. In total, 374 heads of households were interviewed. The results of this survey showed that on average, the households interviewed had 4 members. They also consume an average of 40 liters of water per day. Two of the six villages have a basic drinking water supply system by gravity, three supply it by motor pump from unimproved water sources, and one never had a water supply system. As for basic sanitation, it is limited to the use of latrines, ventilated septic tanks, latrines with evacuation, dry ventilated latrines, and dry latrines with slabs. Furthermore, about 43 % defecate in free space. Most villagers (80 %) dispose of solid waste outdoors. Finally, the study revealed that poor quality drinking water and poor sanitation are linked to certain diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, and typhoid fever. The evolution towards improved and safely managed sanitation requires great effort and training on the part of the population, to favor well-being and sustainability in drinking water.
