Feasibility and sustainability of the communal timber industry in Manica Province, Mozambique: a review of related literature
Keywords:
Timber industry, sustainability and illegal loggingAbstract
In recent years, new reports have revealed a shocking truth about Mozambique's timber industry and its race against time to end illegal logging in the country (Guardian, 2016). This is leading to unsustainable levels of deforestation; the export of illegally logged timber is also depriving the country of 150 million dollars in lost tax revenue, the Mozambican newspaper ‘O País’ announced. There is a big gap in people's minds about what the timber business involves and how it affects our environment directly and indirectly, causing terrible consequences in our daily lives. Through literature review, the research study tries to understand the real problem and find out the possible solutions. This research study helps to recognise the need to raise awareness of this issue and how everyone can help to make a change.
