Abstract

Household consumption is key to the economy, reflecting spending on goods and services to meet needs and desires. This study, based on Keynesian theory, aims to analyze the impact of variables influencing consumption patterns of Angolan families from 1990 to 2022. An empirical approach using simple regression on a time series of 33 observations, obtained from INE and BNA, was employed, processed with EViews 8 software. Results confirmed that disposable income has a significant positive effect, supporting the Life Cycle hypothesis, while price levels had a negative impact, highlighting the importance of inflation control. Additionally, family wealth positively influenced consumption, emphasizing asset accumulation’s role, while debt had a negative effect, stressing the importance of financial management. The study provides insights into Angolan consumer behavior, offering valuable input for designing effective economic policies to promote social well-being and sustainable growth.
