In a context of increasingly pressing global challenges, preparing young people for the complexities of the modern world has become a priority. The Polytechnic University of Tomar (IPT) has distinguished itself through its commitment to innovation and excellence in teaching. This communication looks at the STRONG project developed by the IPT, which focuses on promoting innovation in teaching and learning to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century. With the clear objectives of investing in innovative teaching methods, providing teachers with resources to practically prepare students for the labour market, and stimulating self-learning and teamwork, the project implemented a series of activities between April 2022 and October 2023. These activities focused on researching and diagnosing future skills needs, analysing the impact of innovative teaching practices, developing digital content, and creating a digital platform for knowledge transfer between academia and business. The project also promoted interaction between the academic community, alumni and business through networking events, work placements and other collaborative initiatives. The impact of the project was evident in the training of teachers to adopt innovative teaching practices and in the preparation of students for the labour market, thus strengthening IPT's role as a regional development agent.
