Abstract

This study investigates the emergence of China as a global power and the impacts of this transformation on the international geopolitical order, examining how this new configuration influences the balance of power and relations with other great powers. Since the economic reforms of 1978, which implemented the model of "socialism with Chinese characteristics", China has experienced accelerated growth, implementing international policies of state control and strategies of economic expansion that have consolidated itself as a prominent player on the global stage. The research seeks to identify the main factors that fostered this advance, analyze Chinese economic diplomacy with emphasis on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and explore the impact of Chinese presence in strategic regions, such as the Asia-Pacific, Africa and Latin America. The methodology adopted was qualitative, based on documentary analysis of secondary sources, including academic articles and reports from international organizations, which provided an in-depth understanding of Chinese strategies and the responses of Western powers. The results indicate that, although China's rise offers alternatives to the Western model of cooperation, it also generates new economic dependencies and raises global security issues, especially in relations with the United States. It is concluded that China's rise transforms the international system into a progressively multipolar order, imposing strategic challenges on the great powers to balance cooperation and containment.
