The Effects of the Covid-19 on Management: The Downsizing at the Company J&J Transports – Mozambique

This research aims to analyze one of the effects that the Pandemic brought to the business world, specifically the adoption of the Downsizing strategy, by the private company J&J Transports, Ltd, as one of the responses to minimize the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the adoption of restructuring through Downsizing, layoffs and hiring freezes occurred, affecting the company's productivity and the financial conditions of employees. In this context, the research aims to objectively analyze the positive and negative effects resulting from the implementation of the downsizing strategy at J&J Transports-Beira. Methodologically, the research is qualitative, and data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The results indicate that the downsizing strategy brought positive effects such as the possibility of professional growth and adaptation to new roles, while the negative effects were less professional support, anxiety about remaining in the company and lack of transparency in communication. The research suggests improving internal communication to reduce anxiety and uncertainty among employees, strengthening trust in management; ensure that employees have the necessary support to deal with changes, through training and development programs.
