Educational Intervention in Circular Economy for Health Sustainability Among Nursing Students at UNIKIVI

Context: Nursing education today requires integrating circular economy and planetary health principles to prepare professionals capable of sustainable and responsible care practices. The objectives were as follows: to describe the design, implementation, and evaluation of an educational intervention based on the circular economy for undergraduate nursing students at Kimpa Vita University (Uíge, Angola), aimed at strengthening knowledge, attitudes, and practices of health sustainability. The methods included a quasi-experimental study with pre/post evaluation; a six-session intervention (workshops, dialogued seminars, case studies, and reflective activities); a validated instrument administered as a pre-test and post-test; and descriptive and inferential statistical analyses (McNemar; Wilcoxon signed-rank; p < 0.05). The intervention significantly increased knowledge, attitude, and practice scores, with the overall score improving from 7.73 ± 2.13 to 9.92 ± 0.27 and statistically significant gains in the evaluated dimensions. Several post-test items showed a ceiling effect. The study concluded that educational interventions structured around the circular economy effectively develop health sustainability competencies in nursing students; curricular integration and longitudinal evaluation are recommended to assess whether changes are maintained.
