Analysis of forms of address (he’ and ‘you’) in the 7th grade: the case of the inhagoia primary school

Abstract

The present study "Analysis of Forms of Address ('tu' and 'você') in the 7th Grade: A Case Study of Inhagoia Complete Primary School." The choice of this theme stems from the observation made during the research that the majority of students do not correctly employ forms of address. Considering that address varies from individual to individual, they use familiar forms of address with everyone, regardless of age or social status. It is assumed that they use the same form of address outside the school environment. The general objective of the research is to analyze the use of Forms of Address ('tu' and 'você') in the 7th grade at Inhagoia Complete Primary School and propose possible remediation strategies. The research approach used is qualitative, possibly incorporating some quantitative data, based on methods of direct observation, bibliographic research, and case study. The research instruments include: exercise sheets, letters written by students, and interview recordings. The theoretical framework revolves around the Principle of Cooperation, which defines good conversational practices. The research findings indicate that the majority of students use familiar forms of address with their teachers in the classroom and also with older individuals.
